PESHAWAR, March 1: The Standing Committee of the NWFP Assembly on Higher Education has recommended that evening classes in all schools and colleges, both for girls and boys, should be started to cope with the existing load of students.
The meeting chaired by Mushtaq Ghani MPA deliberated upon question of Muzaffar Said advocate MPA that was referred to the committee by the house.
The committee recommended that evening classes programme should be taken in phases and suggested that during the first phase 10 districts should be included in it. The department was asked to make the ground work and plan a viable strategy wherein those big cities in the districts where the number of students was very high should benefit from the scheme.
The committee expressed concern over status-quo in the promotion of standard of education in the government institutions despite hectic efforts for the last many years and held the education department and the teaching staff responsible for the same. The committee called upon the high ups of the education department to take the issue seriously.
The committee expressed concern over the notices given by the Higher Education Authority to the academic institutions for rise in fee structure. It said that the decision on the 50% reduced fee structure was under consideration of the committee. The committee asked HERA to wait till final decision on the issue.—APP
