FAISALABAD, March 1: Police recovered an industrialist’s son, who was kidnapped for Rs30 million ransom 16 hours after the incident. Four kidnappers, including a woman, have been taken into and illicit weapons recovered from the suspects.

Giving details of the operation launched by the local police teams, DPO Muhammad Amin Wains told newsmen on Wednesday that armed men had intercepted industrialist Rahseed Ahmed on the Faisalabad-Jhang Road near airport when he was going on a car with his son, Tahir Rasheed, and driver, Talib Husain.

He said the kidnappers threw Rahseed and his driver Talib in the limits of the chiniot city police station in Jhang and asked them to arrange Rs30 million for Tahir’s release. The industrialist informed the Chiniot city police about the incident, which formally brought the matter into the notice of the Faisalabad police.

The DPO said after the receipt of information of kidnap of a young son of the local industrialist, four special teams were constituted under the supervision of senior officers. The police succeeded in finding a clue to the kidnappers in Jhang and on a tip-off, they raided Chak Lagharian village of Qadirabad.

The police found the hideout of the criminals and as they dashed into the house they found Tahir lying unconscious as he was given an injection.

The DPO claimed that the police arrested the mastermind of the heinous crime, Muhammad Khan alias Bagu, his wife Robeena alias Saima, and two of their accomplices — Shafique alias Majid and Irshad alias Maulvi. However, one of suspects, Irfan, succeeded in disappearing from the scene during the police operation.

The Pakistan Sizing Industries Association chairman Mirza Shafique Ahmad announced Rs100,000 for the police teams which conducted the operation.

HANGED: A convicted prisoner, Ghulam Murtaza, was hanged in the local district jail here on Wednesday.

Ghulam Murtaza murdered his neighbourer, Waheed Ahmad, at Chak 276-RB of Dijkot in 1994. The local sessions court awarded him capital punishment which was upheld by all superior courts. The mercy petition of the convict was rejected by the president and three death warrants were issued.

The convict was hanged on Wednesday morning in the local district jail and his body was handed over to his legal heirs.
