SUKKUR, March 1: An FIR has been lodged with the Rohri police against seven people of the Mahar tribe for killing two persons and injuring another in an ambush near Rohri railway station on Tuesday.
Police have arrested two persons and seized arms and ammunition from their possession.
One Allah Dino Mahar, son of Ghous Bux Mahar, was on his way to Lakhi Ghulam Shah in a taxi, when the vehicle came under attack near the railway station.
Mr Mahar and Mohammad Sharif Malik, taxi driver, died on the spot, whereas a hotel worker, Mumtaz Mirbahar, suffered injuries. He was taken to civil hospital, Sukkur.
Police rushed to the area and arrested Shah Mohammad son of Shaman Mahar and Mohammad Ali, son of Gulzar Mahar, and recovered two pistols from their possession, while their other accomplices managed to escape.
Mohammad Ali cousin of Allah Dino Mahar lodged the FIR against Shah Mohammad son of Shafi Mohammad, Mohammad Ali son of Gulzar Mahar, Aziz son of Abdul Rasool, Ghulam Rasool son of Gul Mohammad, Dilshad son of Ghafoor Mahar and two others.
The shoot out was stated be an outcome of an old enmity.
CASE AGAINST POLICE OFFICIALS: Two FIRs have been registered against five police officials including on Tuesday on charges detaining one Rehzan Ogahi illegally and misusing official arms and ammunition.
Sources said that following the illegal detention of Mr Ogahi for more than one month at Tangwani police station and misappropriation of official arms and ammunition, two FIRs have been registered on the complaint of SHO Baharuddin Keerio.
The FIRs have been registered against Kashmore SP (Investigation) Sana Ahmed Brohi, Senior investigation officers Mohammad Ali Abbasi and Sanaullah Sarki, former SHO of the Tangwani police station Hidayatullah Nandwani and another official.
When contacted, Kashmore DPO Shahab Mazhar Palli said that such minor incidents of misappropriating official arms and ammunition take place and the Sukkur RPO was the authority to decide whether they should be arrested.
MARK-UP RATES: The executive committee of the Sukkur Chamber of Commerce and Industry has expressed its concern over the rise in mark-up rates and termed it harmful for business and industrial growth.
Senior Vice-President Haji Syed Anwar Ali Jaffery, Vice-President Zafar Ahmed Shaikh and other members of the executive committee, speaking to newsmen, said that the rising mark-up rates would not only hinder the pace of industrial growth investment but would also hit the trade and industrial sectors.
They said that bank credits had become too costly and in some cases mark-up had reached between 15 per cent and 18 per cent in addition to the Karachi inter-bank rates (KIBOR).
Similarly, they said, the rate of export re-finance had gone up to 9 per cent, while in India re-finance to exporters was being provided at the rate of 5.25 per cent.
They demanded rationalization of the high mark-up and export re-financing rates.
TWO KILLED: Two persons were killed and another suffered injuries during firing at a marriage party in Rehan Jamali village near Garhi Khairo.
The incident occurred in the limits of the Miranpur Buriro police station on Tuesday night.
The marriage party of the son of Rehan Khan Jamali was underway when people out of joy started firing. Two persons Ali Mohammad Jamali and Budhal Jamali died on the spot, while another Sono Khan Jamali was injured and taken to Larkana hospital in critical condition.
