MUZAFFARABAD, Mar 1: A cleanliness campaign in quake-hit Muzaffarabad started on Wednesday with the objective to prepare the city for the reconstruction and rehabilitation phase.

Azad Jammu Kashmir Local Bodies Minister Raja Naseer Ahmed Khan, AJK Advisor to PM Raja Farooq Haider, Administrator Municipal Corporation Muzaffarabad Zahid Amin Kashif, Brig Umer Farooq and Brig Abdul Rahman Rahmani kicked off the campaign.

Over 1000 volunteers, members of NGOs, citizens and officials are taking part in this cleanliness campaign.

About 100 dumpers, tractor trolleys, wheel loaders and excavators cranes have been arranged to make the campaign a success.

During the campaign, more than 25 wards and camp areas would be cleaned and garbage and solid waste will be removed from the city areas.

On the occasions speakers stressed upon inhabitants of the areas to play active role in the campaign and prepare themselves for reconstruction.

Meanwhile, a walk was organized to mark the Civil Defence day in which a large number of people, including volunteers, participated.

Earlier, the administrator of the Muzaffarabad Municipal Corporation took oath of the office of Chief Warden of Civil Defence.

Deputy commissioner Muzaffarabad administered the oath.—APP
