ISLAMABAD, Feb 28: The ministry of social welfare and special education has set up a second rehabilitation centre called “Aashiana” in Mansehra district for people who became orphans, widows, disabled or destitute as a result of the Oct 8 earthquake.
Talking to the APP here on Tuesday, Director Southern Region, Directorate General of Special Education, Mohammad Fazil Cheema said the government of the NWFP has provided the land for the centre while the Ministry of Social Welfare in collaboration with the Al Khubaib Foundation will run the centre.
Presently, he said, 400 affected people would be accommodated at this centre while it has planned to extend this facility for a 1,000 people. Besides food, clothing and shelter, there is a tent school, a hospital and playground for children at the centre, he added.
Mr Cheema said: “We have also collected the data and every support will be provided to the needy.” The ministry has already established a rehabilitation centre at Hattian in Attock district.—APP
