ISLAMABAD, Feb 28: Member Federal Indus River System Authority (Irsa) Fazalur Rehman Siddiqui has said that keeping in view the capability of local and multinational construction companies it can be said that the Diamer-Bhasha dam project would be completed by 2014.

Speaking in a PTV programme on Monday, he said feasibility of the project was ready while work on its design would be completed by 2008.

He said Pakistani companies possessed required skill and ability and were fully equipped to construct road infrastructure for the project.

It would be a concrete dam and rocks broken for construction of roads could be utilized for the dam, he said. In reply to a question, he said that thorough geological survey were conducted prior to construction of a big dam and loopholes were removed to make the project safe from all aspects.

He said that big dams were mainly dependent on glaciers. Monsoon rains made little contribution to their storage.—APP
