KARACHI, Feb 28: The joint opposition in Sindh Assembly on Tuesday announced to boycott the assembly session fixed for Friday, as March 3 is a universal protest day against publications of cartoons and caricatures of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

This decision was announced by leader of the opposition in Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmad Khuhro and parliamentary leader of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal Maulana Omar Sadiq at a press conference on Tuesday after the session was adjourned for Friday by Deputy Speaker Rahila Tiwana following a rumpus in the House.

Before addressing the press conference opposition leaders including Syed Qaim Ali Shah and others called on Speaker Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah and protested over attitude of the deputy speaker and asked him to review the decision as it was within his power to call the session earlier.

Following their meeting, Mr Khuhro told journalists in his chamber that when the speaker refused to entertain their request, they asked him that at least he could change the day from Friday to any other day as Friday was being observed universally as protest day against blasphemy.

Mr Khuhro drawn attention to the fact that Tuesday was private members day and there were more than 40 items for consideration in the order of the day, but the deputy speaker after a signal from a minister abruptly adjourned the House which had not completed even second item.

Senator Mian Raza Rabbani, Senator Safdar Ali Abbasi, MPAs Syed Murad Ali Shah, Nasrullah Shaji, and Abdul Rehman Rajput were also present.
