ISLAMABAD, Feb 27: Pakistan’s Acting Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva Ms Tehmina Janjua on Monday urged the donors to expedite converting pledges into funds to help start and sustain the reconstruction work in the quake-hit areas.
The government plans to start the reconstruction phase from the next month.
Ms Janjua, addressing the donors community, said the government was working on a comprehensive plan for reconstruction and rehabilitation of the earthquake affected areas, says a message received here.
She made a presentation at a meeting organized by the United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Geneva for the donor countries.
Jan Vandermoortele, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Pakistan, also addressed the briefing.
In her presentation, Ms Janjua highlighted measures by the government to provide relief to the survivors.
She informed the participants that most of roads and the infrastructure in the earthquake affected areas had been restored.—APP
