SUKKUR, Feb 26: Mir Ghalib Domki of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League has been declared successful unofficially in the by-election for the seat of NA-210, Kashmore.
He bagged 46,120 votes and his rival, Mir Imran Khan Bijarani, got 9,327 votes in the election held on Saturday. The turnout was 15 to 20 per cent.
The seat fell vacant after MNA Saleem Jan Mazari was elected the Kashmore district nazim. Earlier, the election for the seat was held on Dec 10, 2005, but the Election Commission cancelled it following complaints of large-scale rigging. Tight security measures had been adopted in district’s three talukas, Kash-more, Kandhkot and Tangwani.
Election Commission member Sadiq Hussain Leghari and other officials of the commission supervised the polling and visited various polling stations. Leaders of the People’s Party Parliamenta-rians have alleged rigging in the election. They said their polling agent had either been kidnapped or taken hostage at many polling stations. Mr Bijarani rejected the results and said he would go to the court. The winning candidate denied the allegations of rigging.
