Growing fear in Rafah over Israeli army expansion

Refugee camps are becoming major targets of relentless Israeli air strikes and artillery shelling, particularly in the eastern part of the central area of the Gaza Strip, Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud reports from southern Gaza.

The Israeli military announced the increase of invading forces with some 30,000 more soldiers on the ground. It’s an attempt to expand the operations of Khan Younis, this time coming from Khuza’a, in eastern Gaza, all the way to the southern part of Khan Younis.

There’s a growing fear here among the more than one million Palestinians displaced in Rafah city, as well as the 300,000 residents, that the operation will likely expand to include parts of Rafah.

From the eastern side and from the southern part of Khan Younis into the main entrance of Rafah city, people have no other options to seek refuge, Mahmoud reports.
