Israel’s military has claimed to have destroyed a network of tunnels and a hideout belonging to Yahya Sinwar, Hamas’s leader in Gaza, Al Jazeera reports.

The Israeli military’s 14th Reserve Brigade Combat Team located and destroyed Sinwar’s apartment near Gaza City “in recent weeks,” military officials said.

“The tunnel was built so that it would be possible to stay inside it and conduct combat from it for long periods of time,” Israel’s military said in a statement.

Al Jazeera could not independently verify the Israeli military’s claim.
