BAHAWALPUR, Feb 22: All encroachments, illegal constructions and extension of shops will be demolished in congested bazaars of the city within 10 days.

This was decided at a meeting presided over by district nazim Tariq Cheema here on Wednesday.

The nazim constituted a four-member committee to monitor the operation to be launched for the purpose if shopkeepers failed to remove illegal constructions and structures.

The committee will comprise tehsil city nazim Malik M Zahid Mahmood Channar, TMO Ahmad Kamal and two representatives of the Anjuman-i-Tajran.

DEMAND: The English Teachers Union has urged the Punjab government to provide them financial benefits on a par with English teachers of other districts.

At a press conference here on Wednesday, union office-bearers said they were appointed in 1995 on a permanent basis, but now the government was treating them as contractual employees and they were being denied allowances and other privileges.

They said their junior teachers posted in other districts had been granted due promotions, hence they should also be treated as government employees.

CONTROL ROOM: The highway patrol police have established its control room in the Bahawalpur city for the help of needy people.

The highway patrol police will not only provide help to the commuters, but also keep an eye on criminals.
