The Israeli army said Capt Lior Sivan, 32, was killed in the fighting with Palestinian armed groups in southern Gaza, Al Jazeera reports.

Sivan was from Beit Shemesh, west of Jerusalem, and was a combat officer in the 363rd battalion.

Another soldier was also “seriously injured” in southern Gaza and has been taken to a hospital for treatment, the military added.
