Only 24 trucks crossed into Gaza through new crossing: report
More and more displaced Palestinians are being pushed here to the southern part of the Gaza Strip where there is a lack of the very basic survival items in these difficult conditions, Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud reports from Rafah.
“So far the number of trucks allowed in through the Karem Abu Salem crossing is 24. Those are the trucks that used to be allowed through the Rafah crossing, but now they are going through the security clearance at the Al-Awja checkpoint, which is an Israeli-controlled territory.
“We are talking about medical supplies and fuel. Anything else will be allowed through the Rafah crossing and will be managed and delivered by the Palestinian Red Crescent,” Mahmoud said.
This has just increased the lengthy and very bureaucratic process of getting the aid supplies, making it difficult for the people who are in dire need to have them, Mahmoud adds.
