There are three major issues the US government is looking to address with the Israelis as diplomatic activity in the region picks up, George Mason professor Mohamed Cherkaoui said while speaking to Al Jazeera.

“Stopping civilian casualties is one, because it has become a liability not only on Israel but also on the US,” he told Al Jazeera.

“Number two is to go back to a diplomatic approach… which brings back Qatari mediation,” Cherkaoui noted, adding that the third was Washington looking to push Netanyahu to consider a ceasefire agreement.
