Sukkur DPO transferred

SUKKUR, Feb 21: Following incidents of violence and arson, the Sindh government has transferred DPO Aftab Halepoto and ordered him to report to the central police office.

Iqbal Dara was appointed the new DPO on his place.

C-section police SHO Hakeem Bullo has also been suspended.

Two bishops of Hyderabad, who had visited Sukkur to review the situation, and members of the Christian community criticized police for doing nothing while two churches were set on fire.

A team comprising Sukkur RPO Akbar Arain, DCO Shafiq Khoso and DPO Iqbal Dara was busy investigating the entire incident.

The report will be submitted to the Sindh government.

Relatives of the arrested people have said that police had not arrested the culprits, rather it arrested the innocent people after the violence was over.

They alleged police had also arrested minor boys and produced them in the anti-terrorism court while the minors did not fall under jurisdiction of that court.

District Nazim Nasir Hussain Shah and DCO Shafiq Khoso visited various schools of Sukkur and Rohri towns and called upon students to focus the attention to their studies.

Savior’s and St. Mary’s high schools will remain closed till the situation is normalized.

RECOVERED: District civil judge Shakeel Ahmad Shaikh raided a quarter in Revenue Colony here on Tuesday and recovered Abdul Ghani Chachar arrested by police on Monday. Police had also allegedly deprived the man of Rs200,000.
