Mental health is vital

MENTAL health is a critical component of our overall wellbeing, covering emotional, psychological and social aspects. It influences how we perceive, feel and behave, and plays a key role in shaping our ability to cope with stress, interact with others, and make informed decisions.

Against this backdrop, young people’s mental wellbeing is paramount as they represent a society’s future.

Understanding the significance of mental health for youth and exploring ways to enhance it, as such, is crucial.

Adolescence is a time of significant change, marked by evolving identities and increasing responsibilities. Young people must develop resilience during this period to successfully navigate and overcome these challenges.

Prioritising mental health gives them essential tools to handle stress and grow stronger from adversities.

Another thing that must be kept in mind is that academic achievement is not solely based on intelligence.

Mental health is also critical as it significantly helps young people concen- trate, absorb information and engage in their studies.

Physical exercise is also crucial, as it nurtures both the body and the mind. Regular physical activity boosts mental and emotional health, alleviates stress, sharpens memory and enhances sleep quality.

Besides, sharing concerns with someone who cares for you can effectively calm the nervous system and reduce stress in one’s life.

While phone calls and social media are key mediums to get in touch with all others, young people should really focus on face-to-face interactions withtheir friends and family as such interactions relieve stress and elevate one’s mood.

On their part, parents must also know that addressing and treating mental health disorders early in childhood or adolescence can lead to better outcomes and prevent more severe problems later in life. Mental health is essential to building and maintaining healthy relationships. When young people enjoy positive mental health, they are more likely to form and sustain positive relation- ships with their near and dear ones.
