Uniform class-V exams from this year

LAHORE, Feb 20: The Punjab Education Commission (PEC) will begin its operations by holding a uniform class-V examinations all over the province from this year. Under the PEC, a uniform question paper will be distributed in all schools of the province.

The PEC will work towards introducing a modernised examination system and guide the education department to develop courses and organised training programmes for teachers.

This was stated by Punjab education minister Imran Masood while talking to a Unicef delegation led by Umer Abidi here on Monday.

He said the commission would develop a modern system of setting question papers and assessment of answer-sheets. It would also be able to assess students’ positions in different papers at the provincial level. He said the new system would ensure that no question-paper get leaked out.

The minister said an executive council would coordinate with the PEC, the education department and all education boards in the province.

Mr Abidi told the minister that Unicef was already extending cooperation to the Punjab education department in its endeavour to reform its examination system.

Unicef’s Punjab chief Dr Depak, Unicef consultant Dr Kin and project officer (education) Sehar Raza Qazilbash were also present on the occasion.

PU results: The Punjab University on Monday declared the results of MSc geography Part-II annual examination for 2005, held in July last year.

diploma ceremony: The University Law College of the Punjab University will hold a second inauguration ceremony of Diploma in International Trade Law at the Dr Pervaiz Hasan Environmental Law Centre, New Campus, on Feb 23.

A PU spokesman said here on Monday that Planning and Development Board chairman Salman Ghani will be the chief guest, while Faculty of Law Principal/Dean Prof Dr Dil Muhammad Malik will preside over the ceremony.
