The World Health Organisation said it is “appalled” by the continuing attacks on health care across the Gaza Strip, asserting that hospitals are not a target.

Al Awda Hospital has remained besieged since 5 December and two health staff have been shot and killed while working inside the hospital, it wrote on X.

“WHO is gravely concerned for the immediate safety of patients, health workers, and others remaining in Al Awda Hospital, as well as for the safety of health facilities, staff, and patients across the Gaza Strip,” the WHO said.

It also called for ensuring the respect of international humanitarian law and for the active protection of civilians and health care.
