‘All indications say US does not want to discuss Gaza at UNSC’
With the upcoming UN Security Council ceasefire meeting, Ahmed Bedier, United Voices for America, says so far, all indications say the US does not want to have a discussion about Gaza, Al Jazeera reports.
Bedier told Al Jazeera that it’s probable that the US, like other UNSC meetings about the war, will either find some flaw in the language of the resolution or veto it.
“Especially in an election year and [President] Biden is behind in the polls, and it seems both parties [Democrats and Republicans] are trying to position themselves as who’s stronger on Israel,” he said.
“So definitely that pressure is there and the power of the pro-Israel lobby and their pressure and the funding for campaigns is definitely having a significant impact on the decisions,” he said.
Bedier added the US is capable of controlling Israel, but the “will” is not there yet.
The US has become more critical of the death toll, but if they were serious about taking a stance, they could withhold weapons from Israel, he said.
