READ: The newsroom has become a battleground in Israel’s aggression on Gaza

If it wasn’t apparent already, media and journalism have become a central battlefield in the Gaza conflict. And in the battle over how the conflict is reported from Gaza, journalists have been the primary victims.

In all, according to the Committee to Project Journalists (CPJ), 63 journalists and media workers, mostly Palestinians, have been killed in and around the Gaza Strip in the two months between October 7 and December 6.

How media outlets frame the “why”, “how” and “what’s next” of this ongoing conflict also shapes public opinion. As a scholar of disinformation and propaganda, Nicholas Rabb found that “misleading rhetoric and incessantly one-sided coverage” by the US and Israeli media has allowed for the “uncritical demonisation of Palestinians”.
