Gaza resident says she has little hope that the war will end, doubts brighter future for Gazans

Al Jazeera spoke to Najla Shawa, a resident of Gaza who was displaced for more than a month — forced to sleep in the car and ration food for her family — before eventually fleeing to Egypt.

“Now my friends are telling me and sending me pictures. They are in tents on the sand in the open air with their children in this weather, with no way to find the bathroom. With not enough food – with just one or two items.”

Shawa holds little hope that the war will end and doubts there will be a brighter future for the people in Gaza.

“You see everything that is happening now, the depths of brutality, the how ugly it is, and it’s not changing,” she said. “The world is watching, and there seems to be some agreement on what’s going on. Everyone is watching. No one is stopping Israel.”
