Over 80pc of Gaza Strip’s population displaced: UN agency

Over 80 per cent of the Gaza strip’s population — 1.8 million people — has been displaced since Oct 7, the UN’s agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) has said.

In a situation report, the UNRWA said it was “able to conduct assessments in several installations in Khan Younis area”, according to which, six schools in east Khan Younis have been “damaged either directly or collaterally due to strikes”.

It further highlighted that 104 incidents impacting UNRWA premises have been reported since the beginning of the conflict, while 109 staff members have been killed.

The agency said its staff in Gaza has treated over 600,000 patients since Oct 7.There are an estimated 50,000 pregnant women in Gaza, with more than 180 giving birth every day, UNRWA added.
