‘Utterly nonsensical’ to think killing children will create peace: Unicef official
Unicef spokesperson James Elder has said that it is “utterly nonsensical” to think that “the destruction of Gaza and the killing of children is going to create peace in the region”, Al Jazeera reports.
Speaking to the outlet after a visit to Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, in southern Gaza, Elder described what he saw as “devastating” scenes, calling the hospital both an “emergency ward” and a “war zone”.
“Everywhere you turn is a child in incredible need,” Elder said from outside the hospital.
He also said the aid that entered Gaza in recent days was “great” but “not enough”, adding that it would only suffice “if these nail-biting pauses are extended into a ceasefire, into a lasting peace.”
