‘Only permanent ceasefire’ can end suffering in Gaza: Palestinian aid agency

Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP), which works for the health and dignity of Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees, said that even though the temporary truce between Israel and Hamas “will bring some limited respite for Palestinians”, it is not enough.

Instead, a permanent ceasefire is required to “bring an end to Gaza’s suffering,” MAP stressed in a statement.

The MAP CEO said that “urgent efforts are needed to ensure the survival of more than 2 million people in Gaza whose lives continue to be at risk” which includes access to aid on a massive scale and restoring hospitals, schools, telecoms, and essential services like shops and bakeries.

“But most of this will be impossible in the space of the few short days of this truce,” she added.
