European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen said on Wednesday that she welcomed the agreement reached between Israel and Hamas on the release of the 50 hostages and on a pause in hostilities in Gaza, Reuters reports.

“The European Commission will do its utmost to use this pause for a humanitarian surge to Gaza,” she said in a statement.
