The sword of Damocles

SADIQABAD, Feb 16: Residents of several places in the district have for long been living under the constant threat of dangling electricity wires.

The Multan Electric Power Supply Company officials have turned a deaf ear to the pleas of people, who have time and again complained about the situation and sought replacement of the age-old wiring system and out-of-order meters but to no avail.

Mazhar Farid and Javed colonies have the worst power supply network. The authorities have affixed meters to dangling wires and they often remain out of order. The network poses a serious threat to the residents, pedestrians and motorcyclists.

Long power interruptions are too frequent and in the days of rains and windstorms, the localities remain without power for days together.

The residents complain that they have requested the Mepco officials to replace the meters, but they came up with the pet excuse of shortage of meters.
