Action sought against DSP

JHANG, Feb 15: Various groups have joined the Jhang Union of Journalists in their demand for action against the city DSP for his alleged maltreatment of newsmen during a Muharram procession.

DSP (city circle) Malik Mumtaz allegedly abused journalists and snatched a camera when they were covering a procession at Satellite Town. As the district information officer tried to intervene, the DSP allegedly snubbed him as well.

The local union of journalists rapped the incident, demanding immediate transfer of the DSP. As no action has been taken against the police officer so far, the HRCP also has expressed concern over the incident. The MMA, Jamiat Ahle Hadith and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam described the incident as an attack on freedom of press. —Correspondent
