Anti-encroachment drive begins in Haripur

HARIPUR: The tehsil municipal administration on Monday began an anti-encroachment campaign in Haripur city to recover its land from illegal occupants.

The action comes on the orders of tehsil municipal officer Fakharul Islam.

The TMA’s anti-encroachment squad removed extended portions of the shopsand pushcarts from the GPO Road, New Sabzi Mandi Road and from the area between Siddiq-i-Akbar Chowk and Sheranwala Gate Chowk.

Officials said 200 illegal pushcarts and kiosks, whose owners ignored repeated notices for voluntary demolition, were pulled down.

They said the TMA began the anti-encroachment campaign on the complaints about road congestion due to encroachment of roadsides and other land by illegal pushcart owners and shopkeepers.

The officials said people struggled to move around alongside the roads and markets.

They said the TMA issued notices to shopkeepers warning them against encroaching on its land in future.

The officials said encroachers would be removed and heavily fined.

KILLED: A couple was killed in a road accident near the Chamba Bridge.

A speeding passenger coaster hit the motorcycle ridden by Mohammad Riaz and his wife Sheeraz Bibi, residents of Mohallah Pattan, overtaking a vehicle in Chamba village, and left the two seriously injured.

The people shifted the couple to the Havelian Civil Hospital but the doctors declared both dead. The police registered a case against the coaster driver and arrested him.
