The Israeli military has welcomed the deployment of a US nuclear missile submarine in the region in what was widely seen as a bid by Washington to prevent the spread of the Gaza conflict to other fronts, Reuters reports.

“It’s always good news to see that the Americans are moving in more assets,” military spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Richard Hecht told reporters. “We see this as sort of a deterring, stabilising aspect in the region.”
