FAISALABAD, Feb 13: Special teams of the labour department, constituted by District Officer Muhammad Aslam Javed, have inspected weighing scales of 112 sugar mills in Tandlianwala, Jaranwala, Dijkot and other areas during the last 40 days.
The inspections were conducted following instructions of District Coordination Officer Azam Suleman Khan to resolve the problems faced by sugarcane growers. The teams have submitted 30 challans to different courts against owners of unapproved weighing scales under the Punjab Weight and Measures (International System) Enforcement Act, 1975. The teams also granted renewal and approval to certain scales owners who had completed formalities. The department also collected an amount of Rs88,925 as fee under different heads and deposited it with the treasury. The department will reportedly check scales of sugar mills on regular basis and take action against irregularities.
