A BBC journalist reporting from Sderot in southern Israel, northeast of the occupied Gaza Strip, says “the explosions hitting Gaza are almost constant — from the air and from heavy artillery positioned along the border to the Strip”.

Lucy Williamson says she could also hear “bursts of machine-gun fire coming from the north of Gaza”.

“She said alongside the barrage of noise, there’s silence — an almost-total absence of information from inside Gaza.”
