The under-siege Gazans — already without food, fuel and water due to an Israeli blockade — were deprived of one more thing: communication. Wanton airstrikes on phone and internet infrastructure have led to a complete blackout in the territory.

This has added another dimension to already extremely challenging circumstances, where the relief organisations and media are unable to reach their workers.

UNGA approves resolution for immediate ‘humanitarian truce’ in Gaza

The General Assembly approved a resolution that called for an immediate “durable and sustained humanitarian truce” in Gaza.

The draft resolution, which was presented by nearly 50 countries was approved by a 120-14 vote, with 45 nations abstaining.

Israel rejects ‘despicable’ resolution

However, the resolution was swiftly rejected by Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen. “We reject outright the UN General Assembly despicable call for a cease-fire,” Cohen wrote on X. “Israel intends to eliminate Hamas just as the world dealt with the Nazis and ISIS,” he said.
