The US State Department has said Washington knows a significant number of people have died in Gaza but does not have independent confirmation of numbers, adding that it does not trust the figures released from Hamas, according to Reuters.

State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller added that the United States has seen Russia play no productive role at all in the Middle East crisis.

A delegation from Hamas visited Moscow earlier today for talks on the release of foreign hostages including Russian citizens that the group is currently holding in Gaza.
