LAHORE, Feb 11: Under the Punjab Rural Support Programme (PRSP), medical officers were compulsorily examining the patients twice a week at every Basic Health Unit (BHU) in the 12 selected districts of the province.

This was stated at a meeting held here to review the Chief Minister’s Initiative on the Primary Healthcare in 12 selected districts with chief secretary Salman Siddique in the chair, on Saturday.

The meeting was attended by chief executive of the Punjab Rural Support Programme (PRSP), provincial health secretary, special secretary finance, DCOs, EDOs (health) and EDOs (F&P) of the districts concerned.

It was stated that under the PRSP, three BHUs would be given under a medical officer with a special monthly package of Rs30,000 salary and other incentives. The medical officer would be bound to examine patients at every BHUs twice a week.

The health secretary said in order to ensure the supply of quality drugs to the BHUs, the health department was shortlisting companies. As many as 95 drugs were being provided to the health centres.

The chief secretary said the Punjab government with regard to the chief minister’s health programme, was providing necessary staff and a package of other facilities at the BHUs and RHUs so that people could be provided with standard facilities at the health centres close to them.
