SUKKUR, Feb 11: Lawyers took out a procession and staged a demonstration in front of the local press club on Saturday against publication of blasphemous sketches of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in European newspapers.
The protesting lawyers were led by the president of the district bar association, Imtiaz Soomro, and general secretary, Qurban Malano.
The procession started from the district court in Sukkur and reached the press club, where the lawyers staged a demonstration.
Speaking on the occasion, the leaders strongly condemned the publication and demanded from the European governments to apologize from Muslims across the globe.
They also demanded from the Pakistan government to review its ties with Denmark and the other European countries.
Later, the protesters also burnt Danish flag.
TWO BANDITS HELD: Two robbers were arrested by police while looting a passenger coach near Grid station in the Kandhkot A section police station jurisdiction on late Friday night.
Reports said a group of armed robbers blocked the road near the Grid station and tried to rob the passengers but were arrested by police.
The arrested robbers were identified as Chakar Sabzoi and Shahoo Jaffery.
Police claimed to have recovered arms and ammunition from possession of the robbers. According to police, the arrested robbers were wanted in many cases of heinous crimes.
PROTEST: Some women took out a protest rally and observed a sit-in in front of the Jacobabad district nazim office on Saturday following non-arrest of killers of Abdul Ghaffar Shaikh, who died in police custody.
The women were led by the mother of the deceased.
They marched through streets of the city by chanting slogans against police and observed a sit-in for an hour in front of the nazim office.
Talking to newsmen, the mother of the deceased said that killers of her son were not arrested despite the lapse of one week.
She alleged that police were not arresting them deliberately as the killers were policemen themselves.
CRUSHED: A minor girl was crushed to death on Friday by a donkey cart at the Quetta road in the jurisdiction of Jacobabad city police station.
Eight-year-old Muskaan was crossing the road when she came under wheels of the donkey cart and died on the spot.
The cart driver fled from the place.
OVERTURNED: A trawler driver killed and two cleaners injured when a speedy trawler overturned at the National Highway near the Daharki bypass on late Thursday night.
The trawler was going to Karachi from Lahore.
Trawler driver Sikandar died on the spot while Haroon and Abdul Khaliq were injured and shifted to the Daharki taluka hospital.
