NAWABSHAH, Feb 6: Teachers of the People’s Medical College for girls in Nawabshah have opposed establishment of a branch office of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan at the college.
A meeting of the academic council of the PMC was held here on Monday with Principal Professor Ali Akbar Ghumro in the chair.
Members of the council protested against establishment of the office of the CPSP in the building (animal house) of PMC.
They said the office was established without the council’s approval.
They said that funds from the self-finance account of the PMC were also used.
The council members proposed to set up a joint office of the CPSP and post-graduation of universities.
Professors of the college requesting anonymity told Dawn that the CPSP was an autonomous body under the federal government while the college was still with the Sindh government.
They said building for the CPSP office was given by abolishing the animal house of the college used by medical students for practical.
They said the building of the college was given to a private institution which was wrong and would create problems.
Professor Ghumro told Dawn that the office was set up after acquiring permission from the competent authority i.e. the Sindh governor.
He said the the animal house was not in use for last 20 years.
He said it was fortunate for Nawabshah that the office of the CPSP was established to benefit post graduate students.
