Case against doctors for stealing power

KASUR: A- Division police have registered a criminal case against a couple, both senior doctors, for allegedly torturing a Lesco official after detaining him at their private clinic here on Saturday.

Dr Amir Saleem is the medical superintendent at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Lahore, and owns a private clinic at Steel Bagh Mor in Kasur which is run by his wife Dr Farzana Saleem, a gynaecologist.

Police is yet to arrest any of the accused. The case was lodged under section 462-1, and 186 of PPC.

A Lesco spokesman said the Ganga Ram MS and his wife were stealing electricity at their clinic in Kasur. He said the clinic staff thrashed Lesco team when it cut power connection.

β€œAn FIR has also been registered by the police against the accused. A detection bill of 3,000 units has also been issued on account of power theft,” said the spokesman.

According to Dr Saleem, he was at the Ganga Ram Hospital attending a meeting when the Lesco team visited his clinic on Friday morning.

He said the electricity meter installed at the private clinic had been out of order for eight months. He said that the Lesco officials despite repeated requests did not change the meter on the plea that new meters were not available.

Mr. Saleem further said that on the demand of Lesco officials, he had deposited a sum of Rs 75,000 in advance for the defective meter.

Mr Saleem said on the day of incident, his wife was alone at the clinic. The Lesco officials demanded Rs 208,000 as default amount but she refused.

He urged the Lesco staff to show any video or photo of direct power supply or manhandling. He also demanded forensic of the meter.

Police said they were looking into the matter.
