KARACHI, Oct 16: The Sindh government has decided to use helicopters and zoom cameras to keep a watch on protest rallies and processions, with the specific purpose of identifying those involved in violence.

The decision was taken at the cabinet meeting held in the new Sindh Secretariat on Tuesday. The cabinet meeting, which was presided over by Governor Mohammedmian Soomro, reviewed the overall law and order situation and took certain decisions to control it effectively.

The governor stressed the need for effective re-organization of the police force and close coordination between different branches of police and intelligence agencies, so that the police force could play a more active role.

He also assured police to provide them with all necessary and modern facilities.

The governor instructed the inspector-general of police to screen out all black sheep and corrupt elements from the police force and ensure promotion of only dutiful officials.

He also asked police to involve the community and seek help of their elected representatives to improve the law and order situation.

Reviewing the performance of emergency police help number “15,” he called for extending this facility to all the towns and also for streamlining the procedure of registration of FIR.

Discussing the report of the Auqaf department, the governor took serious notice of revenue pilferage in the department, and asked the officials concerned to adopt a transparent procedure in leasing out the property of the Auqaf department, including agricultural lands, so that revenue could be enhanced.

The cabinet also decided to enhance the remuneration of Khatibs and to ensure proper lookafter of Mazars and Khanqahs and provide facilities to Zaireen.

The governor expressed his displeasure over reports that the ADP funds were not being used as per their targets, and asked the officials concerned to ensure maximum utilization of the allocated funds. He also asked them to allow promotion to officials on the basis of evaluation of their performance and merit only.

The cabinet rejected a proposal for re-introducing the “Perchi system” in government hospitals and dispensaries, and asked the health department to depute school-doctors nearest to the place of their domicile, and those found reluctant to be posted there, action should be taken against them under the rules.

The cabinet was informed that in the province there was sufficient stock of wheat.
