Tashfeen emerges leader as Tanvir falters

LAHORE, Feb 4: Tashfeen Ashraf of Garrison Club with a two- day aggregate of 136 took the top spot on the second day of the 22nd Governor’s Golf Cup at Lahore Gymkhana course on Saturday.

On the day when the first day leader Tanvir faltered, Tashfeen, a seven handicapper, posted a net card of 69 to improve his position from second to first.

On the first day Tashfeen was bracketed with Asad at the second slot. He had carded a fine 67 on first day.

He had one birdie on the 16th but he had bogeys on the 2nd, 14th and the 15th and double bogey on the 5th.

Dr Zahid Khan of Gymkhana, an eight-handicapper, posted the best net score of the day of 65 to make aggregate of 138 (73,65) to occupy second position.

He birdied at the 6th, 10th and the 14th but lost strokes at the 5th, 12th and the 16th. One stroke behind Wazir Ali (73,66=139) was at the third spot.

Four contenders, Imtiaz Pervez, Furrukh Piracha, Adil Jehangir and Ijaz Qureshi were tied at the fourth position with identical scores of 144.

In the gross section, Imran Ahmed’s march to the title came to a halt after the organizers scratched him for reporting 10 minutes late on Saturday.

Though he was allowed to play but when he came back with holding his top position, the chief referee Col. Zulifqar Rana announced the decision of his disqualification.

Adil Jehangir is the new leader in the gross event.

He with a gross second round of 67 moves up to show his muscle in this section.

He has a score of 148 followed by Tashfeen Ashraf 150, Muhammad Waseem Rana 151, Dr Zahid Khan 154 and Kh.Imran Zubair also 154.

Reema Farid who was the first day leader of the two-day event of ladies, started on Saturday with net score of 59, followed by Naureen Malik at net 74.
