Drug inspector, clerk booked for rape in Rahim Yar Khan

RAHIM YAR KHAN: Police have registered a case against a drug inspector and a clerk from the health department on charges of raping a woman.

According to first information report registered by City Liaqatpur police on Sept 3, complainant ‘B’ , a resident of Madina Colony Khanpur, told the police that her daughter ‘R’ was operating a maternity home clinic and residing at Adda Gulshan-i-Fareed.

She said she frequently visited her daughter’s clinic to oversee its operations. Tehsil Liaqatpur drug inspector ‘I’, along with clerk ‘G’ who was appointed at THQ Hospital Liaqatpur, sealed her daughter’s clinic.

Her daughter, in order to reopen the clinic, allegedly paid a bribe to the clerk. Later on, both the suspects sealed the clinic multiple times and extorted money from her daughter through blackmail to allow it to reopen. They also coerced her daughter into engaging in illicit relations. Eventually, her daughter filed a complaint against the suspects with the health authorities.

The complainant informed the police that on Aug 27, 2023, when she was on her way to Liaqatpur, the suspects intercepted her. They informed her that she had filed an application against them, and they wanted to mediate. They forcibly took the complainant to a house in Model Town, Liaqatpur, and allegedly gang-raped her at gunpoint. During the assault, they also recorded a video.

On the other hand, medical stores in Liaqatpur city observed a strike on Monday in support of the drug inspector and health department clerk. They rejected the mediation offered by acting DSP Saifullah Korai and demanded quashment of the FIR.

STRIKE: Employees of the Civil Aviation Authority at Sheikh Zayed International Airport went on a strike and protested for the approval of their demands under the banner of the CAA All Workers Alliance (CAAAWA) on Monday.

Asad Bilal, the local chapter leader of CAAAWA, stated that CAA employees, including officers and workers, had not received a salary increase for the past three years. He said the outsourcing of Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore airports must be permanently stopped immediately, as it would adversely affect the economic well-being of the employees. Bilal said the recommendations of the Qadir Mondokhail Committee must be approved in the best interest of the employees.

He added that daily wage workers and contract employees must be reinstated otherwise the protests would continue on a daily basis.
