PESHAWAR, Feb 4: A parliamentary party meeting of the Pakistan Peoples Party (Sherpao) has condemned the publication of blasphemous cartoons, saying that such outrageous acts are intolerable for Muslims.
The meeting, presided over by party’s central president and Interior Minister, Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, at the People’s House, deplored that the cartoons had hurt the sentiments of Muslims.
The meeting lamented that a more heinous act was the reproduction of the blasphemous cartoons by other newspapers.
It lauded the prompt protest of President General Pervez Musharraf and the federal government with the countries concerned.
The meeting also hailed the efforts of President Musharraf for the construction of water reservoirs. He had considered the sensitivity of smaller provinces, so as to keep the federation intact and make provinces prosperous, it said.
The meeting said the two water reservoirs, Munda and Bhasha, would meet the requirements of the country by addressing the shortage of water and electricity and creating new jobs opportunities.
It expressed concern over situation in Balochistan, saying that certain elements had created this situation for their nefarious designs to hamper the development of mega projects and deprive the province and its people from development.
The meeting endorsed the measures taken by the government for the continuity of these mega projects.
It claimed that general public of Balochistan was satisfied with the government policies, and they had greater urge for development and the masses would never compromise on national sovereignty.
The meeting said elements hindering the development of the province could not be sincere with Balochistan. The meeting demanded that such miscreants should be dealt with an iron hand.
The meeting through a resolution reposed full confidence in the leadership of Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao.
