HYDERABAD: The 76th Independence Day was observed across Sindh with great enthusiasm with jubilant men, women and children carrying Pakistan flags packing almost all roads and streets of their city, town and village since Sunday night.
Crowds of youths kept gathering at different roundabouts and taking out rallies throughout the night till late Monday evening. Celebrations were seen in Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Tando Mohammad Khan, Matiari, Sanghar and Shaheed Benazirabad districts.
State and private buildings were decorated with colourful lights. Countless people came out on roads on Sunday night and paraded on different roads playing musical instruments and national songs to mark the occasion. All roads remained clogged with private vehicles as overjoyed youths danced at roundabouts and intersections.
Rallies were organised by many organisations, educational institutions and traders’ bodies.
Stages were set up outside some schools where students presented tableaus.
On Monday morning, special prayers were held in mosques for the country’s integrity, prosperity and progress. Independence Day gatherings and programmes were also held in all public sector educational and other institutions.
Hyderabad’s official independence day programme and flag-hoisting ceremony was organised by Deputy Commissioner Fuad Ghaffar Soomro in the Circuit House. Commissioner Bilal Memon hoisted the flag. Besides the DC, Mayor Kashif Shoro, DIG Pir Mohammad Shah and senior district and police officials attended the ceremony. An Independence Day cake was cut and the history of Pakistan right from the Freedom Movement was highlighted to underline significance of a free nation.
A large number of families enjoyed a concert where prominent singers sang national songs.
An Independence Day programme was also held at the Besant Cultural Centre while another such event was held at the Police Facilitation Centre.
Mayor Shoro had organised a flag hoisting ceremony on Sunday evening which was followed by an Independence Day programme at the Hyderabad Development Authority secretariat.
An ‘Azadi Festival’ was organised for families in Rani Bagh by the district administration in collaboration with local garrison leadership. It was followed by a splendid display of fireworks.
Jashn-i-Azadi programmes were held in all institutions of higher education including the University of Sindh, Jamshoro, Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam, and Mehran University of Engineering and Technology.
LARKANA: The main Independence Day function in this city was held at the commissioner’s secretariat.
Larkana Commissioner Ghanwar Leghari hoisted the national flag at a ceremony attended by the mayor, deputy commissioner, DIG and chairman of the district council, besides other senior officials.
Flag-hoisting ceremonies were held in the Govt Pilot Higher Secondary School, Begum Nusrat Bhutto Library Hall and various other government offices.
A large number of people from all shades of life participated in the ceremonies.
Schoolchildren and college students presented tableaus and sang national songs to highlight importance of freedom at the events held in numerous educational institutions.
Such events were held in all five districts of Larkana division where people profusely participated and took out rallies to mark the day. Most public and private buildings on main roads were decorated with colourful lights and buntings giving Larkana and other cities a festive look.
SUKKUR: Various programmes, including special ceremonies for flag-hoisting, were organised in Sukkur, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Kandhkot-Kashmore, Ghotki and Khairpur districts to celebrate the Independence Day.
In Sukkur, the city mayor said at a ceremony that the nation had obtained the country after great sacrifices and martyrdom of thousands of people. “We have to make Pakistan stronger and developed by working hard,” he said.
Children made speeches and performed tableaus in schools across the district to pay tribute to freedom fighters and national heroes.
In Jacobabad, administration officers, district and sessions judge, DC, district council chairman, SSP, Jacobabad municipal committee chairman and Anjuman Tajiran president attended flag-hoisting ceremony at DC ground where schoolchildren and teachers presented speeches and tableaus in connection with the Independence Day.
The students danced to the tune of national songs and paid tribute to army soldiers, Rangers and police officials who laid down their lives for the security of the country.
The speakers said on the occasion: “Pakistan is a great country, and Quaid-i-Azam and our elders had given matchless sacrifices for its creation during the struggle for separate homeland for Muslims of the subcontinent.”
In Kandhkot, the Independence Day ceremony was held at a stadium where DC, district council chairman and vice chairman, DSP and other dignitaries witnessed flag-hoisting and offered prayers for the security and prosperity of the
country.
The speakers said: “We have got Pakistan after great sacrifices and relentless struggle by the founder of the nation Quaid-i-Azam and our elders. The people of Sindh have also laid down sacrifices for the creation of Pakistan”.
Schoolchildren delivered speeches and performed tableaus to pay tribute to the freedom fighters and national heroes.
Similar programmes were held in other towns where people celebrated the Independence Day with great enthusiasm.
DADU: Flag-hoisting ceremonies were held in the offices of deputy commissioners of Naushahro Feroze, Shaheed Benazirabad and Jamshoro to kick-off Independence Day celebrations on Monday morning.
In Dadu, the main programme was held at police headquarters, where DC Syed Murtaza Ali Shah along with SSP Abdul Khaliq Pirzado and officials of various departments hoisted the flag.
The main rally was taken out from Ustad Bukhari Degree College. Jubilant people from all walks of life took part in the rally.
Over a dozen other rallies were taken out in Dadu as men, women and children waving national flags march through the roads and streets raising slogans of ‘Pakistan Zindabad’. Children and youths wearing the national flag-coloured clothes and caps were seen dancing on the tunes of national songs played on the stages set up along the routes of the rallies.
Such rallies were taken out in Mehar, K.N. Shah, Johi and other towns as well.
