NAWABSHAH, Jan 31: The Nawabshah Taluka Council at its first session held on Tuesday condemned the proposed construction of the Kalabagh dam and the army operation in Balochistan.

Convener Khan Bahadur Bhatti presided over the session.

Soof Khan Zardari tabled a resolution, condemning the Kalabagh project and the Balochistan operation.

He said economy of Sindh would be destroyed after construction of the dam, adding that the people of the province had already rejected the project.

He called for ending the operation in Balochistan.

The resolution was adopted unanimously by members of the council, including those of the PPP-backed Awam Dost Panel and the MQM-backed Haq Parast Group.

Speaking on the occasion, Taluka Nazim Abdul Rauf Khan said Rs550 million had been approved for a water supply scheme and a filtration plant. He said work on the projects would start soon.

He said Rs360 million had also been approved for overhauling the drainage system.

He said most of streets in the city were in dilapidated condition. The nazim said the TMA would take over a park near Gajrah Wah.

FOUR POLICEMEN BOOKED: Police on Tuesday booked four police officials, including an SHO, and a servant of the SHO on directives of the district and sessions judge.

The A-section police registered the FIR under section 17/3, Hudood Ordinance, against taluka police station SHO Syed Amanullah Shah, ASI Syed Zafar Ali Shah, two policemen and the servant of the SHO.

Nadeemur Rehman Bhatti, a resident of Golimar area, filed an application with the sessions judge, accusing the police officials of torturing him and depriving him of Rs15,000, a cellphone and other valuables.

PROTEST: Activists of the PPP-SB staged a protest demonstration at 68-Mori around 20 kilometres away from here against Balochistan ‘operation’ and unjustified distribution of the NFC award.

The protesters were led by Meon Khan Rind, provincial president of the party.

They were carrying placards and raising slogans.

Speaking on the occasion, Meon Khan Rind said the people of Sindh were with their Baloch brothers at the time of need.

He said distribution of the NFC award on population basis was unjustified and it should rather be distributed on revenue basis.

Political workers of the PPP, MMA and JSQM joined the protest.
