LAHORE, Jan 30: The National Accountability Bureau, Punjab, has arrested Kanwar Muhammad Ajmal, a resident of Sundar Mahal, Gujrat, on corruption charges.

A NAB spokesman said here on Monday that Kanwar Ajmal, son of Capt Abdul Hameed (retired), had been availing finance facility from account No. 173 of National Industrial Credit Finance Corporation (NICFC), Dinga branch.

He did not return the amount for which the NICFC had to initiate legal proceedings.

At this, Kunwar transferred 20.8 kanals through two sale deeds in favour of the NICFC to get adjusted his loan amount.

After dissolution of the cooperative finance corporations on Nov 6, 1991, Kanwar tried to occupy this land of the NICFC on which an FIR No. 276/92 was got registered against him by the Punjab Cooperatives Board for Liquidation (PCBL) at Dinga police station, the spokesman said.

Afterwards he managed to get back the land by a collusive decree of the Kharian civil court dated April 17, 1996 on a suit filed by his brother Muhammad Iqbal. This decree was got by concealment of the fact.

As per complaint of the PCBL, the liability of Kanwar at contractual rate of 20 per cent markup up to Dec 30, 2003, is Rs30 million.

The Lahore accountability court has granted his 15-day remand. —APP
