ISLAMABAD, Feb 1: Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL) on Friday singed accord with Chinese company Huawei Technologies Corporation for enhancement of its fiber optic cable capacity by equipping it with 10 Gigabit technology.
The accord will bring a revolution in Pakistan’s Information Technology sector. The project would be completed within 12 months.
Furthermore, two contracts for new international gateway exchanges were also signed between PTCL and Huawei. These two exchanges will provide capacity for 13,650 circuits (each exchange). The project will be completed within four months after the signing of the agreement.
Wang Wei Jun, the Chief Executive Officer of Huawei Pakistan signed the accord on behalf of Hauwei while Noorud Din Baqi, member, technical, PTCL signed the accord for PTCL. Akhtar Ahmed Bajwa Chairman PTCL, Shen Yinfa, the Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy and other high ranking officers were also present on the occasion.
As per the accord, highest reliability and redundancy is being achieved by having 5 reliable rings in the national network with fully automated network management system. The agreement provides for an investment of Rs 848.200 million and with a lot of backup guarantees and support from the Chinese company including additional equipment worth about Rs116 million over and above well defined performance guarantees and future support.
Akhtar Ahmad Bajwa, the chairman, PTCL, speaking on the occasion termed the agreement as historic and observed, it would set new dimensions in Sino-Pak brotherly relations. He said, “I am confident that it would prove a best project and would further cement relations between the two countries.”
Shen Yinfa, Economic and Commercial Counsellor of Embassy of China said the agreement strongly indicates the consistent support from PTCL to Chinese companies especially Huawei.
Wang Wei jun, chief executive officer of Huawei Technologies, Pakistan, hoped that agreement between the two companies would prove a success.
He said, “we believe in customer satisfaction and we would prove that PTCL has made a right choice.”—APP
