BAJAUR: Scores of illegal structures were demolished in Khar Bazaar of Bajaur tribal district on Monday.
According to a statement, the illegal structures were removed during an anti-encroachment drive. The campaign has been launched jointly by the district administration and Khar tehsil municipal administration (TMA).
It said that besides scores of illegal structures, different kinds of items and goods placed on footpaths by local traders were also removed.
The statement said that the drive was launched to ensure smooth flow of traffic and movement of pedestrians in the bazaar. It added that the TMA workers also warned traders against encroachments in the bazaar.
MOTORCYCLISTS: The authorities have launched a crackdown on underage motorcyclists.
The district police officer, Nazeer Khan, told journalists that the action was taken to curb the trend of underage driving in the district, which was on the rise owing to multiple reasons.
He said that the action was meant to save the lives of teenage motorcyclists, who were mostly involved in road accidents. He said that several teams of traffic police were taking part in the action. He added that policemen were deployed at important bazaars and roads across the district.
Mr Khan said that scores of underage motorcyclists were checked on the first day of the drive and several of them were detained along with their motorbikes at the police stations of their respective areas to get assurance from their parents that they would not ride motorcycles in future.
