KARACHI: The tragic occurrence of the desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden has been vehemently condemned by the Catholic Church, the clergy, religious, lay believers, and the Christian community of Karachi.

The Archbishop of Karachi, Benny Travas, issued a statement on Monday that said, “The atrocious action has hurt all people of goodwill and we see that it will provoke further violence.”

It said: “We fail to understand how basic respect and tolerance cannot be shown to all religions.”

The statement added, “We implore the international community and all leaders to do their utmost to end religious intolerance and take real actions to enhance religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence among adherents of all religions.
