Protests held against desecration of Holy Quran in Sweden

KARACHI: Many religious organisations and groups on Sunday staged protest demonstrations in front of the Karachi Press Club to condemn the burning of a copy of the Holy Quran in Sweden.

The Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen (MWM) also organised a protest and slammed the “state permission and police protection” given to those who were involved in the nefarious act.

Demanding an immediate collective response from the Muslim world, they said ties with the European country should be severed unless the culprits were punished.

Addressing the protesters, MWM leaders warned that if a swift action was not taken against the Swedish right-wing extremist, who set ablaze the Holy Quran, consequences for the world peace would be worse.

Speaking on the occasion, Allama Sadiq Jaffery called upon the Muslim rulers and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) countries to take strict action against the incident, warning that Islamophobia had reached an unprecedented peak in Europe and the Western world and might bring about disastrous consequences.
