Karachi Port operations

KARACHI, Feb 1: Berthing activity at the Karachi Port was maintained on the higher side on Friday thanks to steady arrivals and as a result all the newcomers were toed to the vacant berths at both the wharves.

While berth occupancy at the dry wharves rose to 63 per cent it again fell to 33 per cent at the Bulk Oil Piers (BOPs), according to KPT sources.

The ships, which were berthed included MSC Frementile, Global Power, to unload and load containers, Bolna, and Malakand to offload general cargo, Khalid to unload sulphur, Trom Petros and Babur Kapitan to load molasses.

Sailing was also active as six vessels departed. They are Global Prosperity, Al-Mirqab, Leixoes, Iran Matin, Malakand and L.M.Z. Valia, while MSC Frementile, Babur Kapitan, Gina. X-Press Dhaulagiri and Kota Sejaram are due to depart on Saturday.

Cargo handling activity at the wharves was active where a total tonnage of 66,380 tons comprising 30,074 tons of export cargo and 36,306 tons of import tonnage was handled.

The following ships are due on Saturday: Jurang, with palm oil, Athenian Valour, with crude oil, Yu He, Trade Fast and PONL Everest, with containers.

Port Qasim

KARACHI, Feb 1: Francisca Schulte carrying containers was allotted berth at Qasim International Containers Terminal (QICT), during the last 24 hours, says a PQA press release on Friday.

Meanwhile, four ships carrying urea, furnace oil, wheat and chemicals also arrived at the outer anchorage.

Seven ships, Sun Crystal, Shinto Ku, Kalisti, Mont Pelmo, Francisca Schulte, Al Maqwa and Bright City were engaged in loading/unloading edible oil, chemicals, wheat, containers, diesel oil and coal respectively.

Some 52,377 tons cargo comprising 52,256 tons import tonnage and 121 tons export cargo, in addition to 589 containers (Teus), was handled.
